For the 2017/2018 NBA season, Tencent approached Vanta Collective to create a completely branding package as well as opening titles for their broadcast in China.
We strive to create visually stunning pieces for our clients through a combination of creative energy, cutting edge technology and a passion for design.
Maintaining the prestigious black and gold core brand we endeavored to reinvent the look with a sharp, elegant, geometric, edge worthy of Tencent's identity.
We're proud to have delivered a result that not only met, but exceeded their expectations.
Our incredible team of motion designers led the development of all offline CG renders and set design elements, including led screens, video walls, ribbon boards, player profiles, single team and team vs team graphics, countdowns as well as a stellar opening title sequence.
The team also designed and directed all info and data driven graphic templates. Touchscreen, social screens, video wall stat tickers, augmented reality game analysis and social statistical virtual templates.
The online data driven graphics package and custom control application from the previous season were given a complete designrefresh to bring them in line with the new brand.
NBA Stats data coupled with industry leading real-time applications form the foundation of the graphics operation.
A key part of the project was the integration of the new design elements into the set design. The combination of cutting edge physical design concepts and equally crafted visual content for the set screens, ribbon boards and AR tied the project together.
The communication, operational and cultural differences between the Chinese production team and our design team is always a fun challenge to tackle. The approach of both sides embracing honesty, humor and respect was instrumental.
Both teams had a real desire to create a cohesive and elegant brand package that we could be proud of. It's always refreshing to work with people who passionate about creating a quality end product and we believe that shows in the work we created here.
Culture may differentiate our design team and Tencent's staff but we found a way to communicate effectively, work together in pursuit of excellence and more importantly to develop a friendship and partnership over the course of our professional relationship.
